Yāsir ibn ʿĀmir (RA)

Yāsir ibn ʿĀmir ibn Mālik al-ʿAnsī (RA) was an early companion of the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, the patriarch of the celebrated household of Yāsir, and among the first to suffer torture for his faith at Makkah. He was originally of Yemeni stock, of the tribe of ʿАns from the people of Madhḥij, and the historical sources relate that he came to Makkah from Yemen in the company of his brothers in search of a lost brother; his brothers departed, but Yāsir remained, entering into the protection (ḥilf) of Abū Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Mughīrah of the Banū Makhzūm. Abū Ḥudhayfah gave him in marriage to his bondwoman Sumayyah bint Khayyāṭ (RA), and from this union was born ʿAmmār ibn Yāsir (RA), who would become one of the most eminent of the companions.
