Talḥah ibn ʿUbayd Allāh

Talḥah ibn ʿUbayd Allāh was one of the most distinguished Companions of Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ and among the ten companions promised Paradise (al-ʿAsharah al-Mubashsharah). He belonged to the Quraysh tribe of Banū Taym and embraced Islam during the early Makkan period through the efforts of Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq. Talḥah endured persecution for accepting Islam and later migrated to Madīnah, where he became one of the closest supporters and defenders of the Prophet ﷺ.

Talḥah ibn ʿUbayd Allāh is especially remembered for his bravery and sacrifice during the Battle of Uḥud. When the Muslim army faced severe difficulty and the Prophet ﷺ was exposed to danger, Talḥah courageously shielded him from enemy attacks, sustaining numerous wounds while defending him. Because of his extraordinary devotion, the Prophet ﷺ praised him highly and referred to him as a martyr walking upon the earth. In addition to his military service, Talḥah was known for his generosity, wealth, and charitable support of the Muslim community.

After the death of the Prophet ﷺ, Talḥah continued to play an important role in the political and social affairs of the early Islamic state. He participated in the consultation council (shūrā) established by ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb for the selection of the next caliph. Talḥah later became involved in the events leading to the Battle of al-Jamal during the caliphate of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, where he was killed in 36 AH/656 CE. Through the lens of sīrah and early Islamic history, Talḥah ibn ʿUbayd Allāh remains a symbol of courage, loyalty, sacrifice, and devotion to Islam.
