The Sariyyah of al-Ghābah was a military expedition connected to events that occurred near al-Ghābah, a pastureland situated close to Madīnah. The expedition arose after a raid was carried out against the camels of the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, which were grazing in the area. The attackers belonged to hostile tribal elements who sought to challenge the security and authority of the Muslim community in Madīnah.

According to the classical sīrah and maghāzī sources, the Prophet ﷺ quickly organized a response to pursue the raiders and recover the stolen camels. Several Companions participated in the pursuit, including Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ, whose swift actions are prominently mentioned in the historical reports. The Muslim force succeeded in pressuring the attackers and recovering much of the property, while the raiders retreated from the area.

The Sariyyah of al-Ghābah demonstrates the importance of rapid-response expeditions in the Prophet’s ﷺ military policy. Such operations were intended to protect the economic resources of the Muslim community, deter tribal aggression, and maintain stability around Madīnah. The event is preserved in the major works of sīrah and maghāzī literature as an example of the vigilance and mobility of the early Muslim community.
