Nusaybah bint Kaʿb al-Māziniyyah (RA), also known as Umm ʿUmārah, was a distinguished female companion of the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ renowned for her courage, loyalty, and active participation in the defense of Islam. She belonged to the Banū Māzin branch of the Khazraj tribe of Madinah and was among the earliest members of the Anṣār who embraced Islam. Nusaybah (RA) is especially remembered for her heroic role during the Battle of Uḥud, where she defended the Prophet ﷺ with exceptional bravery.

She was among the participants in the Second Pledge of al-ʿAqabah, through which the people of Madinah pledged support and protection to the Prophet ﷺ before the Hijrah. During the Battle of Uḥud in 3 AH/625 CE, when Muslim ranks became disorganized and many fighters retreated after the surprise attack of the Quraysh cavalry, Nusaybah (RA) took up arms and positioned herself near the Prophet ﷺ. Armed with a sword and bow, she fought fiercely against attacking enemies and sustained several wounds while shielding the Prophet ﷺ from harm. Islamic historical sources describe the Prophet ﷺ praising her steadfastness and courage on that occasion.

Nusaybah (RA) also participated in other important events during the Prophetic period, including the Battle of Ḥunayn and the Treaty of Ḥudaybiyah. Her dedication continued after the death of the Prophet ﷺ. During the caliphate of Abū Bakr (RA), she took part in the Battle of Yamāmah against Musaylimah al-Kadhdhāb and reportedly lost one of her arms in combat.

In Islamic historical memory, Nusaybah bint Kaʿb (RA) symbolizes female devotion, sacrifice, and participation in the defence of the Muslim community. Her example is frequently cited in discussions concerning the role of women in early Islam and the military and social contributions of the Anṣār.
